OpenAI couldn't handle the influence of people wanting to use its new AI video generator, Sora.
OpenAI shut down Sora shortly after launch. The message currently displayed on the sign-up page says that account creation is temporarily unavailable due to high demand.
OpenAI CEO Sam Altman told X that the company had significantly underestimated demand and that it would take some time to make Sora available to everyone.
«We're trying to figure out how to do it as quickly as possible!», — Altman convinces.
OpenAI first showed its Sora video generator, capable of creating videos based on text prompts, on February 15. After that, Sora was released for use by a small group of testers, the results of whose work were demonstrated on social networks.
In March, the then CTO of OpenAI, Mira Murati, said that Sora would be available this year, possibly in a few months.
It is still unknown what data the company used to train the artificial intelligence model. YouTube stated that using videos from the platform would be a violation of its terms of use.
