Concerns about Rafał Trzaskowski's victory. Civic Coalition politician indicates what may affect the election result

Rafał Trzaskowski is the leader in the presidential polls. However, the PO camp is far from optimistic. There are concerns.

As indicated by the “Super Express” portal, Rafał Trzaskowski is currently the leader in the presidential polls. He has a significant advantage over Karol Nawrocki, who is running with the support of Law and Justice. If media reports are to be believed, the good results of the Civic Coalition candidate do not calm politicians down. Many of them fear that the scenario from 2015 will repeat itself, when Bronisław Komorowski lost to Andrzej Duda, although the polls favored the former president.

The specter of defeat looms over the Civic Coalition

In 2015, the race for the Presidential Palace was between Bronisław Komorowski, who was running for re-election, and the debutant Andrzej Duda. Polls indicated that the former had an advantage. For a long time, this was an overwhelming advantage. However, after the vote, the winner was Duda representing PiS.

For Civic Coalition politicians, this is a recurring nightmare. Some politicians fear that it may repeat itself and that Rafał Trzaskowski, who was considered the favorite, will lose. “It will be a campaign of emotions, and the result may be decided literally by a thread,” says an experienced Civic Platform politician in an interview with “Onet”.

He didn't stop there. The politician points out that the victory or defeat of the capital's mayor may be decided by the discouraged PO electorate, which does not see the real effects of the settlement of accounts by Law and Justice politicians.

This may affect Trzaskowski's victory

A PO politician quoted by “Onet” indicates that the division within the ruling coalition may also have an impact on Trzaskowski's victory. In the presidential elections, all the parties that are part of the government are fielding their candidates.

“It will be difficult to maintain unity. Hołownia is already playing to PiS, setting the election date for John Paul II's birthday,” assesses the aforementioned politician.

Last Wednesday, Speaker of the Sejm Szymon Hołownia announced that the first round of the presidential elections will take place on May 18. The second – if it takes place – will take place on June 1.
