Chinese manufacturer shows off army of factory robots

MagicLab, a Chinese company founded in late 2023, has unveiled MagicBot humanoid robots designed to automate industrial processes, including assembly, logistics, and rescue operations.

The main feature of the third generation of MagicBot is its design capabilities, which include 42 degrees of freedom, which allow it to perform a wide range of tasks with high accuracy. According to the developers, thanks to manipulators capable of imitating up to 70% of human hand gestures, the robots can perform complex operations, such as lifting loads weighing up to 40 kg, sorting materials, or interactively working with other robots in a team. In one scenario described by MagicLab, one robot hands over a container of parts to another for further processing, demonstrating coordination.

MagicBot has significant autonomy thanks to the use of energy-efficient materials and miniature servos with high torque. This allows it to work up to five hours without recharging. In addition, a complex of sensors and algorithms, which the developers call a “supersensor”, provides 360-degree perception, obstacle avoidance and autonomous action planning. According to the MagicLab team, the robot is able to adaptively improve its skills by semantically analyzing its environment.

Previous demonstrations of MagicBot have shown its ability to delicately manipulate small objects, such as folding clothes or manipulating an egg. This is made possible by multi-dimensional pressure sensors that allow it to manipulate even soft or slippery objects with millimeter accuracy. The intuitive control of robot movements provided by this system opens up wide opportunities for integration into various industries.

With the release of a new generation of humanoid robots, MagicLab not only creates competition for leading developers such as Boston Dynamics, but also forms a new standard for automated solutions focused on flexibility and accuracy.
