Cherkasy official sentenced for justifying Russian aggression against Ukraine

Prosecutors of the Cherkasy Regional Prosecutor's Office proved in court the guilt of a local official who publicly denied the armed aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine, which began in 2014, and approved the actions of the aggressor country (Part 1, Part 3 of Article 436-2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

The investigation established that the 49-year-old official, working at a local employment center, spread pro-Russian propaganda during telephone conversations in the spring of 2024. narratives. 

She expressed a negative attitude towards the Ukrainian authorities, approved Russia's policy and denied its responsibility for the shelling of Ukrainian territory. In particular, she claimed that Russia “was forced to take the occupied Crimea under its protection”.

The Sosnivskyi District Court of Cherkasy found the accused guilty and sentenced her to 5 years in prison. At the same time, in accordance with Article 75 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, she was placed on probation for 3 years.

Currently, the prosecutor's office is preparing an appeal. The pre-trial investigation was carried out by investigators of the Ukrainian State Police Bureau in Cherkasy region.

The verdict will enter into force 30 days after its pronouncement, if neither party files an appeal.
