Burn a tank with meter-thick armor: Brazilian defense company develops ATGM with “fire-and-forget” technology

Brazilian defense company SIATT announced the development of an advanced anti-tank missile system MSS ATGM, equipped with advanced technologies to increase efficiency and safety on the battlefield.

The authors of the online military publication Army Recognition report that as this platform develops, it will change the way we think about anti-tank and precision-guided munitions. strike capabilities of the Brazilian ground forces, becoming the most important element of future combat operations of the Brazilian army, notes ArmyInform.

In addition to the work on the development of the latest anti-tank missile system (ATGM) MSS (Míssil Superficie-Superfície), the company Sistemas Integrados de Alto Teor Tecnológico (SIATT) is also developing a new anti-tank guided missile (ATGM) with  fired and—forgot» technology.

Such technology allows operators to immediately change position after launching a missile, which drastically minimizes the damage to the military by enemy counterfire. It is expected that the new complex will penetrate more than 1000 mm of rolled homogeneous armor (RHA).

At the same time, effectively neutralizing a wide range of modern main battle tanks (MBTs) and armored vehicles, including those with dynamic protection. Due to this level of armor penetration, the MSS ATGM belongs to the same class as some of the most powerful anti-tank missile systems in the world.

In addition to its high penetration capability, the future MSS ATGM model will have a range of over four kilometers. This is very important for fighting in open or rough terrain, where the ability to conduct combat operations at long distances is necessary for tactical advantage.

The portable version of the product consists of a launcher with tripods and sights weighing about 30 kg, a container with ammunition weighing less than 25 kg. The missile design includes a laser guidance system.

In addition to developing a new ATGM, the company is working on creating an anti-tank missile with laser guidance and increased range. This ATGM variant is designed to increase the accuracy and range of the Brazilian army's anti-tank weapons, ensuring effective combat against targets at significant distances.

The laser guidance system allows the missile to be accurately guided to both static and moving targets, giving operators greater control over the missile's flight path and reducing the likelihood that it will deviate from its target or be intercepted.

«The MSS anti-tank missile system platform marks an important milestone in Brazil's drive to develop its own highly effective defense solutions, reducing dependence on foreign technology», — is emphasized in the publication Army Recognition.

In addition, the MSS complex is being developed in such a way that it can be used as an individual means of destroying armored vehicles, and can be installed on various platforms and vehicles.

It is planned that the MSS system will also include a firing simulator with a very accurate reflection of the real environment, so it will be possible to train anti-tank soldiers without the need to use real missiles, as well as test equipment for measuring and aligning the direction of fire.

«These capabilities increase export potential systems, as countries seeking to strengthen their anti-tank defenses will most likely pay attention to the improved characteristics of the MSS anti-tank missile system and its flexibility in integration with various platforms, the authors of the publication note.
