The Royal Navy of Great Britain has begun modernizing combat systems on key ships, including Type 23 frigates, Type 45 destroyers, Queen Elizabeth-class aircraft carriers and the latest Type 26 frigates. The defense initiative aims to improve the detection, tracking and neutralization of threats in increasingly complex naval combat conditions, writes Army Recognition.
The main element of the upgrade will be the integration of the RECODE (Reportedly Enhanced Combat Operational Decision Engine) system, which uses artificial intelligence to analyze combat information in real time, which will significantly increase the accuracy and speed of decision-making.
The upgrade also includes improved navigation systems, which will allow ships to operate in conditions of GPS electronic jamming, as well as improved weapon guidance systems, ensuring greater accuracy of missile and artillery strikes. This will help the fleet effectively counter both traditional threats from submarines, aircraft and ships, and asymmetric threats, such as swarms of drones and high-speed boats.
The need for such an upgrade became apparent after recent operations by the Royal Navy, in particular the monitoring of the Russian reconnaissance vessel «Yantar» in British waters. The new combat systems will improve the ability to analyze the actions of potential adversaries and respond quickly to any challenges, which is key in modern naval conflicts.
This project is part of the Royal Navy's wider digital transformation strategy, which involves the introduction of data processing technologies, automation and modern electronic warfare systems. Such investments are in line with the UK's strategic vision to ensure maritime security and increase defense capabilities in the conditions of future conflicts.
