Boris Johnson spoke about Elizabeth II's fatal illness

Queen Elizabeth II of Great Britain suffered from bone cancer in the last years of her life, former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson wrote in his memoir Unleashed, Politico reports.

According to the politician, by the time of his resignation in September 2022, a few days before the Queen's death (she passed away on September 8), he had “known for a year or more” about her diagnosis. Describing his last meeting with Elizabeth, Johnson recalls that she “appeared paler and hunched over, and had dark bruises on her arms and wrists, probably from IVs or injections.”

As the former prime minister noted, the illness did not affect the monarch's mood and, despite her condition, she “was determined to hold on and do her last duty.”

Politico notes that Elizabeth's official cause of death was “old age.”

BAGNET recalls that Queen Elizabeth died at the age of 96. She reigned longer than any other monarch and became the first monarch to live to 90. Her son Prince Charles took the throne – he became King Charles III.

In February of this year, it became known that the new monarch was sick with cancer. This was discovered during hospitalization due to an enlarged prostate. He began treatment. Currently, Charles III is fulfilling his duties.

Another member of the royal family who was diagnosed with cancer this year is Princess Catherine of Wales (Kate Middleton), the wife of Prince William. In January, she underwent abdominal surgery, which is when the disease was discovered. The princess underwent a nine-month course of chemotherapy, and in September she appeared in public for the first time after treatment.
