Biden says he is 'not confident' of peaceful outcome of US elections

“I'm confident the election will be free and fair, but I don't know if it will be peaceful,” Biden told reporters during his first appearance in the White House briefing room since taking office. – What Trump is saying, and what he said the last time he didn't like the outcome of the election, was very dangerous.”.

Biden noted that US vice presidential candidate J.D. Vance did not confirm during this week's vice presidential debate that he would accept the results of the vote next month, Voice of America reports.

During Tuesday's vice presidential debate, moderators asked Vance: "Will you try to challenge the results of the election again this year, even if every governor certifies the results?". Vance responded that he was “focused on the future,” and then added: “Look, Trump said there were problems in 2020.”

Donald Trump himself, visiting the Hurricane Helene recovery center in Evans, Georgia, on Friday, said he did not hear Biden's comments.

“I can only hope that the election is free and fair,” he told reporters. – I think that's the way it's going to be in this state, and I hope that's the way it's going to be in every state.”

U.S. prosecutors said this week that Trump acted outside the scope of his presidential duties when he pressured state officials and then-Vice President Mike Pence to try to overturn his 2020 election loss.

Their 165-page filing is likely the last chance for prosecutors to detail their case against Trump before the presidential election.

Trump was impeached in 2021 for inciting an insurrection after hundreds of his supporters stormed the Capitol building, smashing windows and breaking down doors.

He faces charges in what prosecutors say was a "private criminal effort" to undermine the election, which turned violent.

“When all else failed,” the indictment says, Trump sent “an angry mob” to disrupt the vote count.
