Before/After: What are the actors of Batman Returns doing today?

Three years after the monumental success of Batman, with Michael Keaton and Jack Nicholson in the shoes of the Joker, Tim Burton is back for his sequel: Batman Returns. A film in which the director of Edward Scissorhands, The Nightmare Before Christmas and Sleepy Hollowinfuses all his art for strange creatures and the gothic tale. Alongside Michael Keaton, also back in the dark knight, there are Michelle Pfeiffer as Catwoman, and the disturbing The Penguin (Danny Devito) who steals the show. Not enough, however, to ride on the success of his predecessor and its $400 million at the global box office. What Warner will consider a semi-failure, will sign the end of the filmmaker in the Batman universe. He will be replaced by Joel Schumacher.

After the two Batmans by Tim Burton, now aged 73, has returned to The Dark Knight Costume in The Flashlast year, after playing The Falcon in Spider-Man: Homecoming in 2018. Actor, director, comedian and film producer, Danny DeVito is a monument of cinema. He has roles in great films such as One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest and L.A Confidential, before he reunited with Tim Burton in Mars Attack, Big Fish, and the live-action of Dumbo. At 80 years old, he appeared in the film Jumanji: Next Level, a sequel to the film released in 2017.

#4 Max Shreck – Christopher Walken

This year, he shone in Denis Villeneuve's Dune 2, in which he played Emperor Shaddam IV Corrino.

Michael Gough played Bruce Wayne's butler four times, twice under the direction of Tim Burton. After their first collaboration in 1989, the American director used Michael Gough's services in Sleeply Hollow, then Corpse Bride and finally Alice in Wonderland.

Apart from Batman Returns, Michael Murphy has not played in any big films. He has an appearance in X-Men: The Last Standor inManhattanby Woody Allen.

#7 commissioner James Gordon – Pat Hingle – died in 2009

Like Michael Gough, Pat Hingle has played the role of Commissioner Gordon four times, twice under Tim Burton, then for Joel Shumacher in Batman Forever ( 1995) and Batman and Robin (1997). Hingle was a close friend of Clint Eastwood, making three films with him: Hang 'Em High and short,  The Test of Strength   The Return of Dirty Harry.
