Batman: This theory questions the ending of The Dark Knight Rises

Basically, the ending of The Dark Knight Rises can be read in several ways. But a recent theory has just brought a new interpretation to the conclusion of Christopher Nolan's trilogy. The end of the dark knight rises

In 2012, Christopher Nolan released The Dark Knight Rises, the big conclusion to his trilogy on the character of Batman. After the premature death of of Heath Ledger, the filmmaker is forced to revise his plans, and therefore decides to develop the character of Bane. At the end of the film, Batman saves Gotham City from a bomb. He manages to take off in his Batwing, takes the bomb, which explodes miles from Gotham's port.

A conclusion that already leaves open several interpretations. In the final scene of the film, we find Alfred, embodied by Michael Caine, on the terrace of a restaurant somewhere in Italy. When he looks up he sees Bruce Wayne (Christian Bale) and Selina Kyle (Anne Hathaway) having lunch together, smiling. An optimistic conclusion that has two angles of interpretation. The first is that Bruce Wayne really survived his sacrifice,and decided to disappear from circulation to live his life to the fullest alongside his sweetheart. The other interpretation is that Batman died saving Gotham, and that Alfred then imagines this whole scene.

A third possibility

But a third possibility has just been put forward by fans. Some think that the end of The Dark Knight Rises is linked to the Lazarus Pit. In the DC Universe, the Lazarus Pit is primarily linked to Ras al Ghul (Liam Neeson). The Lazarus Pit is composed of a mysterious substance with regenerative powers, capable of healing wounds, restoring youth, and even resurrecting people close to death. It is to this fountain of youth that Ra's al Ghul owes his longevity. However, excessive use can quickly lead to psychological disorders and madness.

In The Dark Knight Rises, the Lazarus Pit is replaced by an underground prison in which Bane and Talia al Ghul were held. After his crushing defeat against Bane, Batman is sent to this prison. We don't know exactly how long he remains in this well before escaping.

But for some fans, this prison is actually a version of the Lazarus Pit. Which would explain why Bruce Wayne manages to recover so quickly from his injuries when he had his back completely broken by Bane.

In the final battle of The Dark Knight Rises, Batman is stabbed by Talia Al Ghul and seriously injured by Bane. However, he manages to pilot his Batwing to take the bomb away from Gotham. Logically, but if Bruce Wayne managed to escape the bomb by evacuating his vehicle before the explosion, he should logically die from his injuries. Some fans thus think that Bruce Wayne returned to the prison, to the pit, to heal his wounds. A theory that would explain why Bruce Wayne survives this merciless war, manages to recover from his injuries, and decides to leave for Italy. Unfortunately, the Lazarus Pit is never mentioned in the trilogy. A theory that is nevertheless interesting and that we will let you comment on here:
