Baltic countries do not rule out provocations from Russia on the eve of disconnection from the Russian energy system

The Baltic countries are fully and completely ready to disconnect from the Russian BRELL energy system and synchronize with Western European networks. This was stated by the energy ministers of Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia during a meeting in Riga, writes gospodarkamorska.pl.

“We are ready for all scenarios. Our societies can be calm, everything is under control”, – assured Lithuanian Minister Žygimantas Vaičiūnas.

According to his Latvian colleague Kaspars Melnis, no provocations from the Russian Federation or attempts to weaken the Baltic countries' power systems have been recorded so far. At the same time, he did not rule out that this could happen on the eve of synchronization.

The disconnection from the Russian system is scheduled for February 8. The next day, the power systems of Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia will synchronize with the Western European network. Preparations for this lasted 15 years.

The Lithuanian Ministry of Energy noted that the Baltic countries have enough capacity and external connections – the EstLink 1, NordBalt, and LitPolink cables – to integrate with the European system. In addition, solar and wind generation capacities have increased in these countries.
