An electric car instead of a power bank. Scientists have proposed an unusual way to ensure the energy stability of the house

A new study by the German Fraunhofer Institute has shown that electric cars with bidirectional charging technology can become a real revolution in energy.

Cars equipped with such a system will be able not only to consume electricity, but also to give it back to the network.

The essence of the technology is because the battery of an electric car can be used as a home battery. During the day, when the solar panels produce excess energy, it can be stored in the car's battery. And at night, when electricity consumption increases, the car can feed the stored energy back into the grid, stabilizing the power system.

This approach has many advantages. First, it enables more efficient use of renewable energy sources, such as solar and wind. Secondly, it reduces the load on the electric grid during peak hours. And finally, electric car owners can save on electricity bills by selling excess energy back to the supplier.

The potential of this technology is huge. Studies show that a fleet of electric vehicles with bidirectional charging can provide a significant portion of the electricity needs. Some countries have already begun to take measures to stimulate the development of this technology. For example, in France, owners of electric cars are offered financial incentives for participation in bidirectional charging programs.

However, a number of technical and organizational issues need to be resolved for the wide implementation of bidirectional charging. It is important to develop standards for the interaction of electric vehicles with energy systems, and also to create an appropriate infrastructure of charging stations.

Despite existing challenges, the prospects for the development of bidirectional charging look very optimistic. This technology can become one of the key elements of the energy transition and contribute to the creation of a more sustainable and environmentally clean energy system.
