After TPMP and Hanouna, Arcom must deal with Mathieu Kassovitz's controversial remarks

Between C8, TPMP and Cyril Hanouna, Arcom has had a lot of work lately. And it's not with Mathieu Kassovitz's controversial remarks that the policeman of the French audiovisual landscape is going to rest. The actor made scientifically false remarks about climate change on the radio. An environmental association has contacted Arcom.

Mathieu Kassovitz, a regular in controversy

When you give Mathieu Kassovitz a microphone, things can get out of hand very quickly. A few years ago, the director of La Haine gave an interview in which he gave his opinion on various artists and productions. He had clashed with Marvel Studios films by attacking Black Panther, calling the feature film starring the late Chadwick Boseman a “shit-ass movie“.The French actor had also slammed in another interview, Christopher Nolan's films, Tenet and Interstellar. Although he considers the director to be “a great director“, these productions had tired Kassovitz. We will also skip the time when he had pleasure in smashing the cinema of Quentin Tarantino and Guy Ritchie.

“Pollution does not exist” for Kassovitz, this association seizes Arcom

While he had to respond to a journalist's column that looked back at the career of an environmental activist who is trying to raise awareness among young people about this issue, Mathieu Kassovitz shared his point of view. When asked if he was an ecologist, he first replied: “What is that“, then continued by declaring: “no, I drive cars, I take planes, I breathe, I'm not an ecologist“. Then he clarified his answer by stating that “pollution does not exist” :

Pollution is the result of human activity but we only work with the tools of the Earth. Making plastic is done with the tools of the Earth. There is nothing that comes from another world. The pollution that we create is our pollution. The Earth will assimilate it without problem. Maybe not us, but that is not a problem.

The actor/director's comments are not going down well with the QuotaClimat association, which works for better coverage of climate and biodiversity issues in the media. The organization has also contacted Arcom, considering that the journalists on set did not react to Kassovitz's comments. The association claims that no one contradicted the guest who said “an opinion that contradicts both established scientific facts and the dignity of populations exposed and vulnerable to different forms of pollution“.

Monday on @franceinter, Mathieu Kassovitz explained for 2 minutes “his different approach to pollution” – namely that it “does not exist”.
ZERO contradictions on the set.

It goes even further: the journalist responds that “it is understood”.
