After the charger, Apple also removes the USB-C cable from the box

After the charger, Apple also removes the USB-C cable from the box

After Apple decided to exclude power adapters from iPhone boxes a few years ago, it took another step in the direction to minimal packaging with the launch of the new AirPods 4.

The recently announced wireless AirPods 4, available in both standard and noise-canceling versions, will come without a USB-C charging cable in the box.

< p>The information is confirmed on Apple's official AirPods comparison page, which states that for AirPods 4 models, “USB-C charging cable sold separately”.

Apple has just completed the transition to USB-C in all of its devices , and already refuses the auxiliary cable. Of course, some users may already have a USB-C cable (or ten) lying around.

But what about those moving from older devices, or new users joining the Apple ecosystem? For them, this means an additional purchase just to charge the AirPods and get them ready to go.

Apple can argue that they care about the environment by reducing packaging waste. That's a fair point, and it's definitely a trend we can all get behind. But is removing one cable the most effective move they could make? Absolutely not.

The iPhone could be next. For now, the iPhone 16 still comes with a USB-C cable, but who knows? We wouldn't be at all surprised if Apple removed the charging case for the headphones as well.
