In Sweden, YouTube blogger Storm De Bol died during a storm. The last eerie message he sent to his grandmother before his death has become known.
Metro writes about this.
Storm was known for his YouTube channel StormOutdoorsy, where he shared videos of his adventures in Northern Europe. The 22-year-old was hiking in northern Sweden when he was caught in a blizzard. He was found dead in Lapland after spending most of the year wandering alone in the remote Jokkmokk region.
The Belgian creator sent a video to a friend showing the wind blowing around his tent. At around 2am on 29 October, Storm sent a distress call to Swedish emergency services, saying he was injured and needed medical attention. He also recorded a final message to his family, saying: “It's snowing heavily here. But don't worry, I'll survive, you know”.
It is known that he tried to return to his car, 14 km from where he pitched his tent. A rescue team was deployed early in the morning, and Storm's body was discovered somewhere on the road between these two points.
His mother, Elizabeth Rademaker, said: “Trees were uprooted that night. Perhaps his tent was also blown away and he had no choice but to walk. But it was -6°C, and because of the storm it seemed even -18°C. His feet and lower legs were frozen. His hands were not frozen, perhaps he still had mittens with him. And since his nose was broken, it is possible that he also fell. He probably suffered for a long time and died alone. I keep imagining his last moments. It devastates me”.
Elizabeth also described the moments before the police confirmed her son's death. She said: “The local policeman called and said there was a problem in Sweden. All day we hoped they would find him alive. In fact, they have already found him, but the news has not yet been passed on to our police. Only a day later we were informed about it”.
His father described Storm as someone who “had problems with people” and “liked to be alone”, so he went on outdoor adventures in his little Peugeot 307. He added: “His video – a priceless legacy for us. But now his camera is out there somewhere in the snow, full of footage from his last trip. I would like nothing more than to have her back”.
And his mother added that her son learned to survive by watching videos like his for hours on YouTube.
