A woman from Frankivsk lost 13 thousand hryvnias buying a phone online

A resident of Ivano-Frankivsk became a victim of fraud, losing almost 13 thousand hryvnias while trying to buy a phone online.

This is reported by “Galka” with reference to the regional police.

The victim said that her daughter found an ad for the sale of a mobile phone on one of the sites. During the correspondence, the pseudo-seller sent a phishing link. The woman followed this link and entered her bank details, after which all her savings were debited from her account.

The police have launched a pre-trial investigation under Part 4 of Article 190 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (fraud). Law enforcement officers are currently working to identify the attacker.

How not to become a victim of scammers?

The police urge you to follow basic safety rules:

  • Check sellers: pay attention to the date of account registration. New profiles may be suspicious.
  • Avoid phishing links: do not follow suspicious links sent by third parties.
  • Check website URLs: even one extra character in the address can mean that you are on a fake resource.
  • Do not share card details: do not give CVV codes, passwords or other confidential information to anyone.
  • Use cash on delivery: pay for the goods after receiving them.
