Bulgarian law enforcement officers detained a man with a passport a citizen of Ukraine who spied on the territory of the Maritsa Vostok 2 thermal power plant. Now they are checking whether he was really Ukrainian or forged documents.
The public broadcaster BNT and BTV write about this with reference to the deputy city prosecutor of Sofia Hristo Krastev.
During the search, the man had Drones, mobile phones, cameras, SIM cards and memory cards were found. They are finding out whether he photographed a strategic object and whether there is information on his devices that constitutes a state secret. Law enforcement officers are also investigating whether the suspect entered the territory of the thermal power plant for the first time.
He was detained for 72 hours on charges of collecting information constituting state secrets with the aim of transferring them to a foreign state. According to Krastev, they will subsequently submit a petition to select a preventive measure in the form of permanent detention.
The detainee himself has already given evidence, telling when and where he entered the territory of Bulgaria, what he did and with whom he met. His words are now being verified.
