The Zhovkva District Court of Lviv region sentenced Antonina Kolombay, a native of the village of Kulykiv, who swindled pensioner out of UAH 11,000 in March of this year. The scammer called the woman and said that her daughter was in the police station and that money was needed to free her. The court fined the scammer 34,000. UAH.
According to the case materials, in March of this year, Antonina Kolombay called the victim's mobile phone, introducing herself first as her daughter, and then as a police officer, and reported that her daughter was at the police station and needed money to solve the problem.
The defrauded pensioner, who is unable to move independently, asked her neighbor, giving her 11 thousand UAH. The neighbor transferred money through a self-service terminal in several payments to the fraudster's bank cards.
Later, the fraudster, while abroad, paid with the aforementioned cards in a shopping mall in Germany, and also withdrew funds while in Germany and returning to Zhovkva.
The accused pleaded guilty and repented.
Judge Ruslan Zelisko found Antonina Kolombay guilty of fraud (Part 1, Article 190 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine) and sentenced her to a fine of UAH 34,000. The verdict can still be appealed.
