OpenAI has announced a new ChatGPT feature that will allow users to ask the chatbot to do something for them in the future.

Over the next few days, the company will be rolling out beta testing of a new tool «Tasks» in its ChatGPT AI chatbot. The new tool, which will be available to Pro, Plus, and Team subscription holders first, will be available across all OpenAI platforms — in the PC program, smartphone applications and simply through the browser.

This tool adds something completely new to the chatbot experience, allowing it to perform tasks on behalf of the user. For example, you can assign the assistant to report the weather every day, send a positive affirmation every morning, remind you when concert tickets go on sale, and more.

«Whether it's a one-time reminder or a recurring action, tell ChatGPT what you need and when, and it will automatically take care of it», — the company explains.

To start using the new tool, subscribed users need to select the AI ​​model «4o with scheduled tasks» from the drop-down menu in ChatGPT. To assign something to the chatbot, you just need to send a message with a description of the task. All scheduled tasks can be managed in your profile. ChatGPT can also suggest tasks, giving you the opportunity to approve or reject them. Users will receive notifications about tasks in the form of push notifications on PC or smartphone.

«Tasks» — This is OpenAI's first instance of agent-based artificial intelligence. The company announced this chatbot format last year. At the DevDay event, CEO Sam Altman said «agents will start working in 2025».
