A Russian frigate created a dangerous incident near the island of Zealand

The Danish civilian ferry of the Molslinjen company on the morning of April 19 was forced to change course near the island of Zealand, because a Russian warship that was sailing nearby could have crashed into it.

The Danish public broadcaster DR was informed about this by the country's Ministry of Defense, writes Evropeyskaya Pravda.

The incident occurred off the Sjælands Odde peninsula when a ferry passing nearby abruptly changed course on its way to the port city of Aarhus.

The captain of the ferry noticed a Russian military vessel moving in his direction and tried to contact with him on the radio – but did not receive a response, says Molslinjen spokesman Jesper Maak.

"It (the ferry. – Ed.) decided to turn around because it could not establish contact with the ship going in front of it, and therefore, that he does not appear to be willing to perform an evasive maneuver as required by maritime regulations,” – he added.

The Danish Ministry of Defense confirmed to DR that according to the rules, it was the Russian frigate that had to bypass the civilian ship. At the same time, they noted that the very presence of the Russian ship does not contradict the rules, and the Russian side reported it in advance.

Molslinjen added that they plan to file a complaint against the Russian warship with the Danish Maritime Administration.

This is not the first time that warships pose a threat to shipping in Europe.
