A 26-year-old previously convicted resident of Zaporizhzhia, using the defender's SIM card, which he lost, gained access to his bank account and stole 280 thousand hryvnias.
This was reported by the Zaporizhzhia Regional Prosecutor's Office and the National Police of the Zaporizhzhia Region.
In March of last year, a 40-year-old military man who had been discharged from the ranks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine due to injuries lost his phone. The man did not immediately block his bank card, which the attacker took advantage of. He installed a SIM card from a military mobile phone on his phone and restored his banking password. After that, he transferred 280 thousand hryvnias from the military account to his own card and the cards of other persons. The attacker then withdrew the stolen money from ATMs.
In December of last year, the attacker was detained and taken into custody. He was reported on suspicion under Part 4 of Art. 185 «Theft», Part 1 of Art. 209 «Legalization (laundering) of property obtained by crime», Part 5 of Art. 361 «Unauthorized interference in the operation of information (automated), electronic communication, information and communication systems, electronic communication networks» Criminal Code of Ukraine.
The pre-trial investigation has now been completed and the case has been referred to court. The perpetrator faces up to 15 years in prison.
