A resident of the Berezov region, who lured money from a disabled girl, taking advantage of her sympathy, received a guilty verdict from the court. The offender repented of his actions. He was sentenced to a suspended sentence.
This was reported by the press service of the Main Police Department.
Last fall, a 20-year-old man from the Staromayakivska community gained the trust of an Odessa woman he met online. Inventing various stories, he asked her for money in debt, which the state pays her in the form of assistance. Over the course of a month, the attacker, taking advantage of the girl's sympathy for him, lured her out of more than 22,000 hryvnias, allegedly for joining the Armed Forces of Ukraine, training to become a driver, etc. When the acquaintance asked when the guy would repay her debts, he stopped contacting her and blocked her on social networks.
The victim waited for the money to be returned for some time, and when she realized that she was dealing with a fraudster, she contacted the police. Law enforcement officers initiated criminal proceedings and during the pre-trial investigation identified and searched for the offender. The young man admitted that he did not plan to return the money, but spent it on his whims. As material evidence, a mobile phone and a bank card were seized from him, to which the victim transferred her funds.
“”During the investigation, which was conducted under the procedural guidance of the Berezov District Prosecutor's Office, investigators collected sufficient evidence and charged the defendant with misappropriation of another's property by breach of trust, that is, fraud, in particular, committed repeatedly. An indictment was sent to the court under Parts 1 and 2 of Article 190 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine”, – said the head of the Berezivskyi district police department, Mykola Drevov.
After examining the evidence provided by the police and taking into account the sincere repentance of the defendant, the court found the man guilty and sentenced him to 2 years of imprisonment with a probationary period of 1 year and 6 months. In addition, the court ordered the young man to compensate the victim for the damages caused to her.
