A 34-year-old man who lives in Sumy Oblast found an ad for sale of a Volkswagen Taureg car on one of the websites a few days ago. The citizen called the seller using the number posted in the ad, asked him everything about the car he liked, and agreed on the delivery of the car he needed for work to the city of Sumy. The condition for quick delivery of the car by the seller to the buyer was a prepayment for the equipment… So the buyer immediately transferred 120,000 hryvnias to the bank card number of the «seller» indicated to him.
A day later, the man received a call from the «seller» and reported that he allegedly had problems with the customs clearance of the car at the border with Poland, and in order to solve them, it is necessary to transfer another 50,000 hryvnias. After hearing this, the citizen realized that he had been cheated, and he would never see his car or his money again, so he filed a crime report with the police.
The police opened criminal proceedings under Art. 190 «Fraud» of the Criminal Code of Ukraine and started investigative actions.
Dear citizens! We would like to remind you that the fraudulent scheme, when criminals offer you to buy this or that product via the Internet and ask you to transfer money for it as an advance payment, is very widespread. So under no circumstances do this until you receive the product. If the «seller» categorically does not meet you, and still demands money in advance, most likely you are talking to a scammer, and you can become his victim.
