A man from Cherkasy allegedly sold tiles on Facebook, but in reality he was stealing money

In Cherkasy region, a man published ads on Facebook about the sale of various goods, and after receiving the money, he did not send the order. He was sentenced to a year of probation.

This is stated in the verdict of the Smilyansk City District Court, which says “18000”.

The court noted that the man published ads on Facebook about the sale of books, binoculars, antiques, ceramic tiles, service sets, etc. After receiving money for the goods – misappropriated the money for himself. And he did not actually have the items that were on sale.

During one of the cases, a woman approached the accused with a desire to buy handmade ceramic tiles and a porcelain service. She paid 69,500 hryvnias for the goods. The man misappropriated this money and did not send the order.

In the courtroom, the accused pleaded guilty and repented. He added that he had partially compensated for the losses.

The court found the man guilty under Part 1 of Article 190 (fraud) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine and sentenced him to two years in prison. However, it replaced the sentence, in accordance with Article 75 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, with a one-year suspended sentence. He was also ordered to pay the victim 61,500 hryvnias. The verdict can be appealed in the appellate court.
