A legendary Polish footballer has passed away. He was the oldest living Polish champion

Mieczysław Kolasa is dead.

As reported by the “Super Express” portal, the sad news of Mieczysław Kolasa's death spread the day before Christmas Eve. The legendary footballer would have celebrated his 102nd birthday in January. Kolasa was the oldest living Polish football champion. He achieved success with Cracovia, which always held a special place in his heart.

Mieczysław Kolasa has passed away. He was 101 years old

Information about Mieczysław Kolasa's death appeared on Cracovia's official social media profile. “This morning, we received very sad news. Shortly before his 102nd birthday, Mr. Mieczysław Kolasa, Polish champion with Cracovia in 1948, passed away. From here, we express our deepest sympathy to Mr. Mieczysław's family and loved ones,” we read in the official statement.

Mieczysław Kolasa was born on January 10, 1923. Football was his great passion. He played for Cracovia in the post-war period. As “Super Express” emphasizes, he was one of the key players of the team, playing as a midfielder from 1948 to 1956.

He left the pitch, but did not finish with the ball

He played 179 official matches for Cracovia. During these matches, he managed to score 21 goals. With this team, he also managed to win a full set of Polish Championship medals, including the most important championship title.

After ending his career, Kolasa coached several teams, including his beloved Cracovia. He led the “pasy” in the period between 1978 and 1979. The tabloid recalls that Mieczysław Kolasa was called by the legendary president Janusz Filipiak “the symbol of great Cracovia”.

The footballer would have celebrated his 102nd birthday on January 10.
