A foreign gentleman defrauded a 65-year-old woman from Kamianka of ₴30,000

The other day, a 65-year-old resident of Kamianets-Podilskyi lost 30 thousand hryvnias after trusting a con artist. The police are investigating all the circumstances of the online fraud and are asking citizens to be careful with strangers.

The story of the failed online romance was told by the Khmelnytskyi police.

Yes, the victim met a foreigner on social networks. After chatting for a while on messenger, the new acquaintance offered the woman financial assistance and promised to send a considerable amount.

The woman agreed to accept the money. However, the gentleman informed the applicant that to transport money across the border, it is necessary to pay a duty. The amount donated, as the man assured, is much larger than what the woman should be given.

“Believing him, the victim transferred 30 thousand hryvnias to the account he indicated. However, she never received the money, and the connection with the foreigner was lost”, – the law enforcement agency said in a statement.

The police have opened a criminal case under Part 1 of Article 190 (fraud) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine and are currently establishing all the circumstances of the incident.

On this occasion, the police strongly urge citizens not to trust strangers and remember: a fraudster can pose as anyone.
