American developers have introduced the latest radar aircraft E-2D Advanced Hawkey

The American corporation Northrop Grumman has begun production of a new long-range radar detection and control aircraft E-2D Advanced Hawkeye for the French Navy. The contract provides for the supply of three aircraft, the first of which will be transferred in 2027. These machines will replace the outdated E-2C Hawkeye 2000, which have served for more than 25 years, reports Army Inform.

The new E-2D aircraft are equipped with advanced AN/APY-9 electronically scanned array radars, which allow them to detect low-visibility targets, such as the Russian Su-57 or the Chinese Chengdu J-20. The aircraft have the ability to refuel in the air, which significantly increases their efficiency and flexibility in performing tasks.

The French Navy, along with the United States, remain the only operators of such aircraft for use from aircraft carriers. They will become a key element of the air defense system, supporting the strike group of the aircraft carrier «Charles de Gaulle». With updated technologies, the E-2D will provide broader coverage, integration of data from various sources, and better coordination in combat situations.
