Russia will increase its military spending by nearly 30% next year, according to a draft budget released Monday, Sept. 30.

The 2025 budget calls for an increase in Russian military spending to $145 billion, about $32 billion more than planned for this year's campaign and more than Russia has spent since the collapse of the Soviet Union, the Voice of America reports.

Russian The attack on Ukraine has become the biggest conflict in Europe since World War II and has drained both countries' resources.

Ukraine's $54 billion military budget for next year is far smaller than Russia's military spending. Ukraine has been able to fight its larger, better-equipped neighbor only because it receives money and military hardware from its Western allies.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said in his daily address that the situation on the front was “very difficult.” The president said: “Everything that can be done this fall, everything that we can achieve, we must achieve.”
Zelensky also said: “The power of arms and the power of diplomacy are always effective when they work together.” He noted that Ukraine “expects concrete actions from our partners to strengthen our strategy… our strength is that the free world defends itself.”
