ZUS indicates how to increase the amount of the thirteenth and fourteenth pension.
As reported by the portal “Goniec”, this year once again, supplements in the form of thirteenth and fourteenth pensions will be transferred to the accounts of seniors in our country. The Social Insurance Institution, which is responsible for paying additional benefits, has issued an important announcement. This way, seniors will be able to increase the amount of their benefits. ZUS has good news for seniors. The pension will be higher
The number of retirees in Poland is growing. In December 2023, their number was 7.97 million, but in May 2024 it increased to 8.3 million. According to information provided by the Polish Press Agency, this is the highest number since at least 2010.
The financial situation of many Polish retirees is difficult, and the benefits paid to them by ZUS do not cover basic needs. One of the forms of support for Polish retirees is additional benefits in the form of thirteenth and fourteenth pensions.
The first to reach seniors' accounts will be the thirteenth pension. The benefit will probably reach seniors' accounts by the end of March. It will be paid out with the basic benefit at the appropriate time. There is no need to apply for the benefit, it is granted ex officio.
Fourteenth pension will go to seniors' accounts
At the moment, it is not known when the fourteenth pension will be paid out. However, not all seniors can count on this benefit. In this case, the legislator has provided for an income threshold, exceeding which means a reduction in the amount of the benefit or its complete absence. Last year, the threshold was PLN 2,900 gross.
Both benefits are reduced by the health insurance contribution and tax. As indicated by the „Goniec” portal, seniors whose annual income does not exceed PLN 30,000 will receive a tax refund. ZUS itself provides information on how to avoid paying tax on the thirteenth and fourteenth pension.
„Over 460 thousand pensioners and annuitants, for whom tax is calculated only from the thirteenth and fourteenth pension, will receive, together with their PIT declarations, an information leaflet and an application for not collecting advance tax payments on income up to PLN 30,000 (EPD-21). Submitting this application may protect against tax overpayment” – ZUS informs.
