YouTube launches automatic video translation using AI

YouTube announced the launch of the automatic dubbing function, which has become available for hundreds of thousands of channels focused on educational content.

What else is known

It is noted that the dubbing process is carried out even during the video upload. Authors can pre-listen and delete the audio track if its quality does not meet their requirements, both before and after publication. Videos in English can be dubbed into French, German, Hindi, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Portuguese, and Spanish, and vice versa.

YouTube began testing automatic dubbing with a limited number of creators in the summer of 2023. The tool is based on the Aloud AI service, developed in the Google Area 120 incubator. In 2023, YouTube also launched the function of dubbing videos in different languages.

However, this technology is not automatic and does not work on the basis of AI – authors independently apply an additional audio track to the video, and users can choose the desired one.
