You can replace the battery in the iPhone 16 smartphone in just 90 seconds

The relative ease of replacing the iPhone 16 battery has earned Apple high marks for maintainability. The new adhesive that holds the battery in the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus models makes this procedure easy.

Due to the application of electric current, the glue loses its stickiness, which makes it possible to replace the battery in just one and a half minutes. Apple recommends using a standard 9V battery and two cables with alligator clips. The red clip connects to the silver contact of the battery, and the black – to the ground screw holding the speaker.

The process takes 90 seconds or less, earning an unprecedented 7/10 repairability rating from iFixit.

The design, which was first introduced in the 14 series, remains elegant. Many components are accessible without further disassembly, making repair procedures such as battery and camera replacement more convenient. Previous models had to deal with components that blocked access to the battery, but the iPhone 16 provides easy access to all the important parts.

However, experts complain about the use of non-standard screws that require special tools for disassembly. The iPhone 16 Pro line received a lower repairability rating because the battery is held in place with glue that needs to be stretched, while the iPhone 16 Pro has a metal housing for better heat dissipation.

The iPhone 16 battery replacement process is described as an analogy with cookies Oreo: If you dip only the bottom cookie in milk, the filling will always remain on the top. iFixit hopes that the battery adhesive technology will also appear in the Pro line in future models.
