Yellow caps with embroidered stars on the podium in Montmeló

Tony Arbolino (Honda), Raúl Fernández (KTM) and Gabriel Rodrigo (Honda) rose to the podium of the Moto3 Grand Prix of Catalonia this Saturday wearing caps that had star flags embroidered. Dunlop, the tire supplier of the category, offered these advertising garments, with which the trio of pilots had to pass through the mixed zone for the usual interviews. The British manufacturer, who put aside the traditional senyera , rectified minutes later in the Moto2 podium ceremony.

The euphoria of Arbolino, author of his first 'pole' in the 2020 World Cup, with a record included in Montmeló (1: 47.762), was attenuated by the controversial appearance of the estelada. The yellow garments, the usual space for their advertising messages, served this time as a vehicle for the independence symbol.

During the afternoon of Saturday, Dunlop issued a brief statement on his social networks in which he assured that the pilots had received a cap “containing a printing error.” “As soon as we found out, the caps were replaced. We are sorry for the mistake,” the British firm concluded.

The resignation of Teixidor

Dunlop's mistake, intentional or not, was also corrected by Michelin, the tire distributor in MotoGP, the premier class. In this way, the Yamaha treble with Franco Morbidelli , Fabio Quartararo and Valentino Rossi , was not clouded by any kind of political demonstration.

It should be remembered that on Friday afternoon Montmeló was shaken by the resignation of Maria Teixidor , president of the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya. The 44-year-old lawyer intended to meet this weekend with Carmelo Ezpeleta , Dorna's executive director, to negotiate Montmeló's continuity in the calendar from 2022.

After a brilliant stage as a director of FC Barcelona, at the head of the women's soccer team, Teixidor had replaced Vicenç Aguilera in the position, on August 1.
