Thanks to a growth of 83% compared to the same period of 2020, in the second half of this year Xiaomi overtook Apple and with a global market share of 17% it reached the second place in the ranking of global smartphone manufacturers. This is certified by the latest report by Canalys which sees the Chinese group behind only Samsung (with a share of 19%) while Apple is detached at 14% (and an annual growth of just 1%).

In his analysis Canalys highlighted how Xiaomi is “transforming its business model from challenger to leader, with initiatives such as the consolidation of channel partners and more careful management in the open market”. Thanks to this strategy, Canalys concludes, it is clear that Xiaomi’s new goal is to overtake Samsung.

The milestone was celebrated in a letter to all employees from the founder and president Lei Junche who spoke of “a milestone in the history of Xiaomi” which already in the third quarter of 2014 had risen to third place globally and then slipped out the following year. from the Top Five. Then the return to the podium in the third quarter of 2002 and today the second step, a result achieved a few weeks after the tenth anniversary of the launch of the first smartphone of the Chinese group which – the founder recalled – in 2020 spent almost 10 billion renminbi on research and development, an investment that this year should rise to 13 billion, with the recruitment of another 5,000 engineers.
