The winners of the World Press Photo-2024 photo contest have been announced. The photo of the year was a photo of a Palestinian woman hugging the dead body of her niece.
The prestigious international documentary photography competition World Press Photo 2024 has announced the winners of the 2024 global competition. Radio MAXIMUM tells who won the prize.
The main prize of World Press Photo 2024 was awarded to Reuters photojournalist Mohammed Salem for a picture taken in the Gaza Strip – a Palestinian woman hugs the body of her niece.< /p>

The jury noted the thoroughness and respect in the approach to creating the image, offering at once a metaphorical and literal look at an incredible loss. This photographer was awarded for the same subject more than ten years ago.
Selected by an independent jury from over 61,000 entries, the works demonstrate the importance of press and documentary photography and are a testament to courage, skill and compassion , discovered by photographers from all over the world, the organizers of the competition say.
The award in the World Press Photo 2024 global competition in the “Open format” category went to the project of Ukrainian photographer Yulia Kochetova “War is personal”. This project aims to show the world what it is like to live with war as an everyday thing reality.

The regional stage of the competition provides that in each region, in each part of the world, be it Asia, Africa, Europe, North and Central America, South America, Southeast Asia or Oceania, winners are determined in four nominations: Singles, Stories, Long -Term Projects, Open Format.
