Will the Russians get the domestic vaccine?

Investing.com – Russian authorities are looking to expand the geography of sales of the domestic vaccine Sputnik, while stating that domestically it is impossible to accelerate mass vaccinations “as capacity is limited.”

It is doubtful whether the director of the Gamaleya center, Alexander Gunzburg, had in mind the capacity of all Russian hospitals, clinics and paramedic points. Most likely it was about the limited capacity for the production of the vaccine. According to him, up to 600 people are vaccinated in Moscow per day, this is clearly not the limit for Moscow hospitals, if the vaccine is available.

In total, more than 5700 people managed to get vaccinated against the coronavirus. Mass vaccination of Russians will begin only in 2021, but for now those who are in risk groups have begun to receive the “dose”: doctors, teachers, police officers, military personnel, employees of trade, social security agencies, catering establishments, etc.

“We also need to be very realistic about the fact that so far we can only produce a certain amount of vaccines. Therefore, we work with 50 countries. Our focus is now on 20 [countries] in which we have made great progress, ”said the head of the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF) in Kirill Dmitriev earlier on Channel One.

Last Tuesday, Dmitriev said that RDIF and Nepalese pharmaceutical distributor Trinity Pharmaceuticals have agreed to supply 25 million doses of the Russian Sputnik V vaccine.

“Thanks to the agreement, medical institutions in Nepal will receive a vaccine against coronavirus with proven safety and efficacy in an amount sufficient for 90% of the country's population,” the RDIF said in a statement cited by RIA Novosti.

Today RDIF announced an agreement reached with one of the leading pharmaceutical groups in Egypt, Pharco, to supply the country with 25 million doses of Sputnik V coronavirus vaccine.

“Thanks to the agreement between RDIF and Pharco, 25% of the Egyptian population will have access to the Sputnik V vaccine. In the future, it is planned to distribute it in the neighboring states of Egypt, ”TASS quotes an excerpt from the Fund's press release.

Earlier, on September 11, Dmitriev announced his intention to deliver Sputnik-V to Brazil and Mexico. Also, fraternal Belarus will be one of the first to receive the domestic vaccine, although its citizens will be vaccinated as part of voluntary participation in the third stage of testing of the Russian drug. An agreement on the supply of vaccines was also signed with Kazakhstan.

Meanwhile, in Russia for the third day, the number of cases exceeds 8 thousand people. The death rate also began to rise. In total, today in the country, according to the operational headquarters, 1,176,286 cases of coronavirus have been detected in 85 regions. Over the entire period, 20,722 deaths were recorded, 958,257 people recovered.

The truth is that the Russian Scientific Center “Vector” has completed clinical trials of the SARS-CoV-2 vaccine. This was announced by the head of Rospotrebnadzor Anna Popova in an interview with NTV.

According to her, the first phase of testing the drug “EpiVacCorona” showed its complete safety and the Ministry of Health expects to complete the registration process by October 15. EpiVacCorona will be produced at the Vector site.
