Will Doom: The Dark Ages be the end of the entire series: the developers have given their answer

The release of the new part of the franchise is expected on May 15, but what will happen after it.

The last part of the Doom franchise from id Software will not end with the release of Doom: The Dark Ages, writes Gamespot.

“This part is not intended to be the end of anything. Right now we are focused only on the last release, but Doom: The Dark Ages — it is not a period at the end of the sentence,” — said creative director Hugo Martin.

While id Software has not yet planned what will happen after Doom: The Dark Ages, it also does not rule out the appearance of more games in the same universe.

It is known that Doom: The Dark Ages will be released on PC on May 15, as well as on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. The developers have also already confirmed that there will be no multiplayer mode in the upcoming release.

As the last installment in one of the greatest shooter series of all time, Doom: The Dark Ages seemed like a good candidate for a multiplayer mode. But as part of the Xbox Developer Direct Bethesda, id Software announced that the upcoming game will not have such a mode.

According to Doom: The Dark Ages executive producer Marty Stratton, the new game is completely focused on creating an “epic campaign”.

“We made this decision in advance to fully devote ourselves to the campaign. This is our biggest, biggest, most massive, most epic campaign ever released, and we are very happy with our decision”, — says Stratton.

Project leader Hugo Martin said that the decision to focus on a single-player campaign allowed the team to add some of The Dark Ages' boldest twists, including the ability to fight with a mech.

“That's why we were able to add both the dragon and the mech Atlan. We focused solely on the single-player campaign and elevated that experience for players,” Martin added.
