Why iPhone 17 Slim may become the strangest iPhone from Apple

Although the iPhone 16 has not yet been released, there have already been rumors about the next line – iPhone 17, which is scheduled for 2025. Although the iPhone 16 will bring several significant innovations, it seems that the biggest changes await us in 2025.

Changes in the model range

iPhone 16 is likely to will be the last series to include the Plus model – iPhone 16 Plus. Rumors suggest that Apple plans to abandon the iPhone Plus next year due to weak sales of the iPhone 14 Plus and iPhone 15 Plus.

Instead, the company can present a new “thin” iPhone. According to available data, the iPhone 17 Slim may become the new “top” a model with a higher price but with features inferior to the Pro Max.

What is known about the iPhone 17 Slim

The iPhone 17 Slim is expected to be inspired the latest iPad Pro models, which Apple positions as the “thinnest tablets in history”. For example, the thickness of the iPad Pro (2024) is only 5.1 mm. If Apple succeeds in implementing this approach in the iPhone 17 Slim, it could be even thinner than the current iPad Pro.

In terms of specifications, the iPhone 17 Slim could have a 6.65-inch display, which sits between the iPhone 17 Pro and the iPhone 17 Pro Max. If the iPhone 16 Pro will have a 6.3-inch screen and the iPhone 16 Pro Max will grow to 6.9 inches, the Slim model will occupy the middle between these sizes.

The iPhone 17 Slim is expected to be equipped with an A19 chip and 8 GB of RAM. Considering that the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max will probably get the A19 Pro chip, the Slim model will be slightly less powerful.

Design and functionality

According to reports, the iPhone 17 Slim could have a less expensive titanium body compared to the Pro models, as well as a single or dual camera – the exact configuration is not yet known.

Will the iPhone 17 Slim be popular?

Following the news about the iPhone 17 Slim, it can be noted that the concept of a super-thin the phone seems quite unusual, especially if its price will be higher than that of the iPhone 17 Pro Max. It seems like you're paying more for form than function, which may raise questions about the feasibility of such changes.

Possible issues such as shorter battery life due to the thinness of the device may also affect the popularity of the new product. Going back to a single- or dual-camera system seems like a step backwards compared to today's triple-lens solutions.

Given that the iPhone 17 is still more than 14 months away, many rumors could change. But if the iPhone 17 Slim really does appear on the market, it could be one of Apple's boldest experiments.
