Who and how can get help with childbirth and pregnancy

In Ukraine, working women can get from the state assistance for pregnancy and childbirth. The basis for her appointment is a certificate of incapacity for work, formed on the basis of a medical report. The Pension Fund told who can receive this assistance and in what amount.

In accordance with the law “On Compulsory State Social Insurance” Women working on the terms of an employment contract (contract), gig contract, other civil law contract, on other grounds provided for by law, at enterprises, institutions, organizations, regardless of the form of ownership and management, are entitled to pay sick leave for pregnancy and childbirth . In particular, women who are residents of “Diya City”, including in foreign diplomatic and consular offices, other representations of non-residents or with individuals, women elected to elective positions in public authorities, local governments, women entrepreneurs, members of the farm, if they do not belong to persons subject to insurance in connection with temporary disability on other grounds.

Sick leave is usually issued from the 30th week of pregnancy. However, women affected by the Chernobyl disaster (categories 1-3) can go on maternity leave earlier – from the 27th week of pregnancy.

Paid maternity leave is provided for:

  • 126 calendar days (70 days before delivery and 56 after), and in case of complications during childbirth or the birth of two or more children – 14 calendar days of vacation are additionally provided;
  • 180 calendar days (90 before childbirth and 90 after) for women classified as 1-3 categories of persons affected by the Chernobyl disaster.

The PFC noted that it is calendar days that are calculated.

Maternity assistance is provided in an amount that compensates for 100% of the average salary.

The amount of benefit for one day of maternity leave is calculated by dividing earnings for the last 12 months preceding the month of the occurrence of the insured event, by the number of calendar days of employment.

The amount of payments of women entrepreneurs depends on the amount of the unified social contribution that they paid over the past year.

The PFC explained that the billing period (12 months) does not take into account calendar days not worked for good reasons:

  • temporary disability;
  • maternity leave, leave to care for a child until he reaches the age of three and six years of age on a medical report;
  • leave without pay;
  • suspension of the employment contract in connection with Russia's military aggression against Ukraine.< /li>

The amount of assistance for pregnancy and childbirth per month should not exceed the maximum value of the single contribution base from which insurance premiums were paid, and cannot be less than the amount of assistance calculated from the minimum wage, set at the time of the insured event.

In Ukraine, the maximum allowance for working women is 100,500 UAH per month (15 minimum wages), and the minimum – 6 700 UAH per month.
