A Wi-Fi router is now in almost every home. But not all owners of this device know where it is best to place it. Usually, the router is placed where the cable reaches. However, if you install it in the wrong place, the Internet will be «weak», and the network will not reach some rooms at all.
Where to install a Wi-Fi router?
IT specialists told what rules you should follow when choosing a place for a Wi-Fi router.
Rule 1: Place the Wi-Fi router in the central part of the apartment
The router should be located approximately the same distance from each room. Depending on the layout of the apartment, the device can be installed in the living room or hallway.
Rule 2: Make sure there are no obstacles «in the way» of the signal
If there is a load-bearing concrete wall between the Wi-Fi router and one of the rooms, the Internet there will be much slower. The concrete will absorb the signal and its power will decrease significantly.
Rule 3: Do not turn the router over
You should not put the Wi-Fi router on its side or upside down at all. The device's antennas should always be pointed upwards. This contributes to better signal transmission.
Rule 4: The higher – the better
The router will work most effectively if it is placed at a height of 1.5-2 meters. The device can be placed on a cabinet or fixed to the wall using special holders.
Where you can't install a router?
Experts in the field of electronics and computer technology emphasize that a Wi-Fi router should never be installed:
- near a battery or any other heat source;
- in a poorly ventilated place;
- next to other electrical appliances;
- where it can get water.
If you have two routers working at home at once, then they need to be set to different frequencies, for example 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz. Then both devices will work correctly and will not «interfere» with each other.
