I would like to know if there are electric convertible cars and if Kia plans to launch a convertible in the next few years.
Apart from a few exceptional exotic cars that use hybridization to increase power, to my knowledge there is no electric – or partially electric – convertible car sold in North America. With us, the BMW i8 Roadster as well as the Porsche 918 Spyder were among the only cars with retractable roofs that could be recharged.
However, this year you will witness the arrival of the Jeep Wrangler 4xe which will offer a range of around 40 kilometers in electric mode before falling into hybrid mode. Although it is not a 100% electric vehicle, it is the only convertible vehicle that can be recharged to be marketed with us in 2021.
As for Kia, there is currently no plan for the marketing of a convertible vehicle. The manufacturer’s latest concept for driving in the open was unveiled in 2016. It was a convertible version of the Optima sedan, which had undergone several cosmetic modifications.
However, because the convertible car market is in free fall, it would be surprising if Kia chooses to embark on the adventure.
