When the clock is switched to winter time 2024 in Ukraine – the date of the transition

In October 2024, Ukraine will traditionally switch to winter time. We tell you when and where you should change the clock, when and where such a tradition arose and how to survive this period without harming your health.

The tradition of changing the clock in Ukraine began in 1996. The Cabinet of Ministers approved a resolution on such a decision 28 years ago. Since then, Ukrainians have practiced switching to winter or summer time. Despite this, debates arise every year about the feasibility of such regular time changes.

When are the clocks changed in October 2024

The last Sunday of October is the time of the traditional turning of the hands of the clocks. In 2024, this transition will be on the night from Saturday to Sunday, October 27, at 4 o'clock in the morning.

Where to change the clock to winter time

Do not confuse this change with the change to summer time and change the hands of the clock correctly! Remember: on the 27th turn the hands one hour back. This is an advantage in winter, because you will be able to sleep longer in the morning. Of course, the number of hours in a day remains the same, but you will have to wake up before dawn.

Is there a change to winter time in the world

Clocks are turned this way not only in Ukraine. This practice is widespread in the world, but the leaders of most countries have already abandoned the semi-annual time change. At this moment, the transition to winter and summer time is still implemented in more than 100 countries. But every year proposals to abolish such a rule appear on the agenda. Nothing has changed so far, so prepare your body for the new regime!

How did such a tradition arise

It was 1908 that marked the beginning of the tradition of changing clocks. Daylight saving time and winter time were first introduced in Great Britain. The British changed the time in autumn and spring in order to save energy resources. 10 years later, the USA joined this tradition, and in the countries of the USSR, clocks began to be changed in 1981.

How to easily survive the change of clock

Doctors and scientists conduct research and prove that changing the clock has a negative effect on human health. Such a sudden change in the mode and cycle of the body leads to stress. And then a number of negative symptoms appear: poor health, weakened immune system, exacerbation of chronic diseases.

If you want to minimize the negative consequences for your body, doctors advise you to prepare in advance. In order to adapt your internal biorhythms, you need in the first few days after the time change: more fresh air, quality sleep, minimal stress, a healthy diet.

How to prepare the body for the transition to winter time :

  • A week before the time change, reduce physical activity to avoid overtiredness. Don't be late at work and don't take on hard work.
  • Watch your diet – don't eat fatty foods and alcohol. Drink more water and herbal tea. One hour before bedtime, turn off all gadgets.
  • On the night of the change to winter time, go to bed at 10 p.m., because this is the ideal time for quality sleep.
  • Do all morning rituals in the evening: prepare breakfast, choose clothes, pack a bag, wash your hair, etc.

Why can they cancel the transition to a different time

From April 2019, the authorities in each EU country independently decide whether to change the clock for their citizens. Countries that refuse permanent time change justify it by “economic impracticality”. Indeed, an economically justified time change can only be within the geographical latitudes from 30 to 60 degrees. By the way, Ukraine is in this zone. In practice, the success and effectiveness of changing the clocks is doubtful, because in this way energy is saved by only 1-3%.

Time change on the phone

Phone, tablet and computer usually change the hour themselves. In order to make sure that the time shows correctly, go to the settings and check whether there is a tick opposite the automatic clock transfer mode. You can also look up what time it is in Ukraine online to make sure that your device shows the time correctly.
