The earlier celebration of the Intercession The feast of the Most Holy Theotokos fell on October 14. It coincided with the Day of Defenders of Ukraine. However, with the new calendar system, the holiday will be celebrated earlier – already on October 1, 2024.

History of the Feast of the Protection of the Most Holy Theotokos

The roots of the Intercession holiday go back to the 10th century, when Prince Volodymyr baptized Rus. According to legend, during one of the enemy attacks, believers gathered in the Blacherna Church, where they prayed for the intercession of the Mother of God. In response, the Virgin Mary herself appeared to them, who covered them with her veil and protected them from death. This is how this celebration was born, which has been preserved in the Christian tradition to this day.

What to do and what to avoid on the Feast of the Intercession

Despite the change in the calendar, the essence of the holiday remains unchanged. On this day, believers should visit the church, pray for health, protection and family well-being. In prayers, you can ask for help in important life matters.

However, there are certain prohibitions that should be observed on the Intercession:

• you cannot quarrel, gossip, swear;
• do not make empty promises;
• do not refuse help to those who need it;
