WhatsApp will soon stop running on some Apple smartphones – the application will stop running on them. Users who do not like to change their phones will suffer.
Currently, WhatsApp supports iPhones with iOS 12 and newer versions of the OS. From May 5, 2025, a smartphone running iOS 15.1 or later will be required to run the application, writes PhoneArena.
This means that iPhone 5s, iPhone 6, and 6 Plus users will lose access to the messenger because their smartphones do not support current versions of iOS. Developers advise owners of older iPhones to make a backup and restore it to a new device that supports WhatsApp.
If you are still using one of the above phones and want to stay on iOS, you may want to wait for the iPhone SE 4, which is rumored to be released in March 2025.
The new generation of iPhone SE is expected to say goodbye to Touch ID and receive a display with a notch for Face ID and the 6.1-inch OLED panel of the iPhone 14. In addition, the phone will support Apple's AI suite, and the camera resolution will increase from 12 to 48 megapixels. Expected price of iPhone SE 4 – ranging from $459 to $499.
