What's new in the displays of the iPhone 16 smartphone

Apple updated iPhone 16 Pro and ‌iPhone 16 Pro‌ Max, increasing the size of displays this year. ‌iPhone 16 Pro‌ now has a 6.3-inch display, up from 6.1 inches, while the ‌iPhone 16 Pro‌ The Max has a 6.9-inch display, up from 6.7 inches.

According to Apple, models ‌iPhone 16 Pro‌ now have the slimmest bezels of any Apple product thanks to a reduction in bezels. Some increase in display size is caused by the bezels, but the ‌iPhone 16 Pro‌ have become slightly taller and slightly wider than their predecessors.

  • iPhone 16 Pro Max – 6.42 inches high, 3.06 inches wide, 8.25mm thick, 227 grams .
  • iPhone 15 Pro Max – 6.29 inches high, 3.02 inches wide, 8.25mm thick, 221 grams.
  • iPhone 16 Pro – 5.89 inches high, 2.81 inches wide, 8.5mm thick , 199 grams.

Although the size has increased, there are really only a few other changes in the display technology . Apple is still using its Super Retina XDR Display with ProMotion for the Pro models, and brightness and peak brightness have not changed. All models have a peak brightness of 1000 nits, a peak HDR brightness of 1600 nits, and a peak outdoor brightness of 2000 nits.

  • iPhone 16 Pro – resolution 2622×1206 at 460 ppi
  • iPhone 15 Pro – resolution 2556×1179 at 460 ppi
  • iPhone 16 Pro Max – resolution 2868×1220 at 460 ppi
  • < li>iPhone 15 Pro Max – 2796×1290 resolution at 460 ppi

What is new is the minimum brightness of 1 nit. Apple added this to the Apple Watch as well, and indicated that it would allow the always-on display with the seconds hand to refresh more frequently on that device. Some of these same benefits may be available on the iPhone, and this may be one of the reasons why Apple was able to increase battery life.

Although the iPhone 16 display also supports a minimum brightness of 1 nit, it doesn't have an always-on display and doesn't support ProMotion.

Both models also have the new second-generation Ceramic Shield coating, which Apple says is 50% stronger than the Ceramic Shield coating of the previous generation, which was used in the iPhone 15 models.
