The West is ready to long-term support Ukraine in the confrontation with Russia, – Reznikov

The organization of cooperation in the medium and long term is coming to the fore. Therefore, in his speeches, the minister focused on the prospects for 2023. Following the Ramstein-5 meeting, the Allies fixed the course for long-term support for Ukraine, Defense Minister Oleksiy Reznikov said.

“We briefed the defense ministers and heads of general staffs from more than 50 countries with the situation and current needs of the Ukrainian Defense Forces. (…) During Ramstein, the partners clearly stated: we are with you until the end of the war, namely, until the victory of Ukraine,” the minister writes on Facebook.

What was discussed and agreed upon during the meeting: NATO organizes NSPA training for specialists from the Defense Procurement Agency of the MoD. The partners were told about the situation at the front, they were “positively surprised” by the dynamics of the actions of Ukrainian groups; Another $675 million US military aid package has been announced, including HIMARS ammunition and other items that will come in handy during active hostilities; The volume of arms supplies will grow, but the resources of operational assistance that can be supplied to Ukraine from the reserves are limited. There is a question of repair and maintenance of the supplied weapons and equipment, the need for spare parts, repair facilities and specialists. The realization that the Russian Federation does not need to be “contained” or “not provoked”, evil can be defeated, corrects the strategy of the allies. The key words of this meeting were “sustain” (support), “long-term” (long-term) and “training” (training).

In addition, the organization of cooperation in the medium and long term is coming to the fore. Therefore, in his speeches, the minister focused on the prospects for 2023.

“Our goal is unchanged. Restore the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine within internationally recognized borders. For this, in addition to successful defense and stabilization of the front line, it is necessary to carry out successful counteroffensives. And keep Russia within limits,” Reznikov writes.

Among the most important priorities for strengthening the Defense Forces of Ukraine in the long term: Development of a three-level air defense/missile defense system, a clear vision in this regard has been formed and communicated to partners; Activation of the defense industry to replenish reserves in the countries of the free world and the ability to systematically support Ukraine; Strengthening coordination with partner countries, strengthening the mechanism for supporting Ukraine through the format of an international fund. During Ramstein-5, several more steps were taken in this direction: the issue of investment in the military-industrial complex will be considered at a separate session within NATO; A qualitatively higher level of training of Ukrainian fighters by Western instructors: from obtaining individual skills to training in battalions, training brigade headquarters.

At Ramstein-5, Reznikov asked partners to consider the possibility of deploying training programs not only in Poland, but also in other neighboring countries.

“This idea was immediately supported by a great friend of Ukraine, Minister of Defense of Slovakia Yaroslav Nad. This will ensure the scaling of the training process, we will get more trained troops in a short time, ”he added. Construction of training centers in Ukraine to combine European resources and technologies with the practical experience of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and these centers could work in the interests of the whole of Europe.

The Ukrainian delegation met with: US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin and the head of the Joint Chiefs of Staff of the Army General Mark Milli, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg and the ministers of the Ramstein-5 participating countries.

The surprise for Ukraine was the position of Slovenia, which offered powerful assistance, which will become a real reinforcement on the battlefield at the very moment when it is needed . Italy also promised to continue to support our country. According to Reznikov, this support “will save many lives of Ukrainians and will help turn the tide in the war.”

The Minister expects to promote several projects during the visits of foreign colleagues to Ukraine. “Preparing some surprises,” he concluded.
