Folk signs and beliefs

It was considered that on Pavlov's Day, January 28, winter was finally beginning to subside. A bright month in the night sky promised clear weather in the coming days, covered with clouds — fast snowfalls. Also a sign of imminent warming were cawing crows — the more they sat on the trees, the faster spring should have come.

On Petra, on January 29, they expected frosts and a clear night sky — the summer must then have been hot and fertile. And if there was a blizzard all day long, they were preparing for a cold spring.
