Ukrainian polar explorers from the station “Akademik Vernadskyi” chose a name for a newborn Weddel Sea seal pup. It was named in honor of the Ukrainian sea drone SeaBaby.
This is stated in the message of the National Antarctic Science Center (NASC) on Facebook.
The scientists also explained that the patronymic was given according to who found the cub first. We are talking about the scientist Svitozar Davydenko.
Such a name was suggested on Facebook by user Olga Sabanska, who received the chevron of the 29th expedition for her idea. In total, Ukrainians shared more than 400 ideas on social networks for what to call a baby seal.
Mykola, Petryk, Hetman, Pager, Donchyk, Schnitzel, Sirko, Frodo, Zimko, Torpy, Kavunchyk and even Penguin – the offers were very diverse. We are sincerely grateful to everyone who participated in choosing the name, the polar explorers shared.
