The German Chancellor spoke at the East German Economic Forum

NATO's recent steps to strengthen the alliance's eastern border are aimed at containing Russia, the Chancellor said on Sunday, June 2 Germany Olaf Scholz. He stressed that it must be clear to Moscow that the alliance will be ready to defend itself if necessary.

Speaking at the East German Economic Forum, Scholz recalled that Germany plays a leading role in NATO's presence in the Baltic countries.

This presence has been going on for almost ten years, reports Reuters.
"Because the threat from Russia will continue, we and other allies decided last year to station additional units in the Baltics, and in the future to deploy There’s a whole brigade there on a permanent basis,”– Scholz said.

"This turn in security policy is necessary to show Russia: we are ready to defend every square inch of NATO territory.", – explained the head of the German government.

Scholz emphasized that only diplomacy from a position of strength is successful.
