Nelliyambam: Police have intensified their probe into the murder of a Wayanad Nelliyambath couple. Keshavan, a retired teacher, and his wife Padmavathi were killed last night. Both were hacked to death by unidentified men. Police say the couple was attacked by two masked men.

Police suspect that the masked men who attacked Keshav and Padmavathi may have fled through their farm. Some of the locals have also seen two people fleeing. It was exactly eight o’clock at night. Keshavan was stabbed on the top floor of the house. Seeing this, Padmavathi ran downstairs.

Padmavathi was hacked to death by her attackers below. When the neighbors ran away after hearing Padmavathi’s screams, the mob got down and ran away. Padmavathi said the two masked men cut themselves on the way to and from the hospital.

The initial assessment of the police was that the couple may have been attacked with the intention of theft. The house has two floors. The second floor was undergoing some repairs. Those who come to work here will be questioned in detail by the police. The second floor of the house can only be accessed through the outer stair case. The district police chief has reached the spot and is conducting an inspection. A dog squad and a team of forensic experts arrived at the scene and conducted an inspection.

Meanwhile, the relatives of the slain Keshavan reject the police conclusion that it may have been a murder committed during the robbery. Relatives point out that the attack at 8 a.m. may have been the cause of something else in the murder. However, police said the house was located in a desolate area and more than 300 meters from the road to the house.
