A 51-year-old American veteran was killed in an avalanche Monday night in Cle Elum, Wash.
Steve Houle was in his snowmobile when he was swept away by the force of the avalanche. Another snowmobiler who was with the victim could be rescued, “New York Post” reported Tuesday.
The 50-year-old was found inert near the French Cabin-Creek river, police said.
The United States has experienced deadly avalanches in the past week with as many as 15 dead.
The week of Jan. 30 to Feb. 6 was the worst in more than a century, according to official statistics from the Colorado Avalanche Information Center.
